Dial by name option in IVR

    How do I give a callers an option in an IVR to dial by name? I’ve created aliases for each extension, and the Phonebook is enabled in Features, but it is not an available option in the pull-down in my IVR.

    Please give more information what you are trying to do.
    What do you mean by: “dialing by name”?

    You could do “Custom Destinations” and choose those in the Drop-Down-Menu.

    Internal extensions can dial 411, but what about external parties? Currently on my client’s Kerio Operator system the caller hears “If you know your party’s 4-digit extensions you can dial it at any time; for a dial by name directory, press 8”.

    I am moving this client from Kerio Operator; in that IVR, the dial by name directory was a service extension that I could type into the destination field. In VitalPBX, I can’t manually type 411 for the entry “8”.

    Like i wrote above: Menu “Custom Destinations”
    You can add 411 there and choose it for key 8 inside IVR.
    If a caller does not have the “rights” you can do that with a news class of service and only the needed features.

    I’ll give it a try! I was hoping it would be simpler but Custom Destinations is something I definitely need to use more.

    Sorry folks to open this back up, but running 2.3.8-3 and not seeing “Custom Destinations” as an option for an IVR entry. See screenshot of where I’m looking.

    How do you set an IVR entry to dial the 411 directory?

    I see how it works now. You must first go to PBX -> Applications -> Custom Destinations. Then, create a destination for the Directory.

    Description: Dial By Name Directory
    Number to Dial: 411
    Class of Service: All Permissions (or applicable)

    Then, from the IVR entries tab you’ll now have an option for “Custom Destinations” in the dropdown, from where you’ll be able to select the above “Dial By Name Directory” option.
